Ekaya Banaras' Pixels is a stunning visual journey, one that looks straight out of a film or a painting. Beautifully shot, the spring-summer line comes alive in the lap of nature, each frame full of a certain serenity. You can almost feel the silence as you soak in the beauty of the collection. Palak Shah, CEO, Ekaya Banaras, tells us about the inspiration.

What’s the inspiration behind Pixels?

This season, we look at exploring the Petit point embroidery (a derivative of cross-stitch embroidery technique, but even finer), which can be traced back to 17th and 18th century France. Pixels come to life in vibrant hues, textures and contrasts, which create optical illusions tricking the eye. Evoking summertime radiance and romance, this collection is an ode to this ancient and rarefied embroidery technique and takes Ekaya's perennial attempts at unwavering revival ahead.

The saris look gorgeous. What kind of design innovation do we see in Pixels?

Staying true to Ekaya's core values of crafting engineered textiles and embracing slow fashion, our saris come woven with kadhwa jaal and multi-hued blooms after dextrous hand work (taking as many as 220 hours). The tissue scallop border saris come styled with stripe-embossed blouses inspiring visions of a dewy springtime in the woods.

The colours are so striking...

Pixels brings into play an evocative palette of azure blue, powder pink, ivory, cream and buttercup yellow. Each of these hues evokes the summer mood and also imparts a sense of calm and serenity.

Tell us how you have styled the collection, especially the hair...

Since Pixel conjures the freshness of summer, the model sports braided chignons and buns, accessorised with vibrant hair accessories. The artfully executed braiding and braided mane embellished with playful accessories in pop hues impart a feeling of carefree summer holidays spent in the lap of nature.

With the summers threatening to be scorching, what would you say are your summer coolers?

Scorching summers call for breathable, organic textiles, and easy breezy separates, which help one stay chic and comfortable at the same time. At Ekaya, we've always believed in crafting everyday comfort.
