City fashion designer Debarun Mukherjee’s new edit is an ode to the bygone era of grandeur, opulence and grace of Chowringhee, a prominent neighbourhood and commercial area in the city that also has a rich historical background. In the new edit, Chowringhee — An Ivory Trail, that’s all set to launch on October 8 at Fairfield by Marriott Kolkata, Debarun uses the colours ivory and nude, which are typically associated with neutrality and understated elegance. The line mostly includes mixed fusion wear with mid and long-length skirts, wide-legged trousers, cropped and tank tops, wrapped tops, long jackets, shrugs and even saris. For men, there are Nehru jackets, blazers, fitted shirts, kurta, churidar and tailored three-piece suits.
Talking about the collection, Debarun said, “Ivory Trail refers to a particular style or trend in which ivory or ivory-like colours are used in an outfit to create a classic, elegant look; using ivory-coloured fabrics, accessories, or makeup to create a cohesive and sophisticated outfit. It connotes a timeless, understated style that emphasises sophistication and elegance, rather than bold or attention-grabbing statements. Additionally, these colours are often used in wedding dresses and formal wear to create a classic and sophisticated look, which was our inspiration. Highlights of bright pink are used in different silhouettes to bring an alter ego of the place ‘Chowringhee’ with its vibrant nightlife, its sketchy streets and the greyish parts of the place.”
