My Kolkata: How does one protect their skin from colours during Holi? What precautions can be taken to minimise irritation on skin?

Arti Nayar: Rub ice on your face before you play Holi. This helps to clog the pores. Along with that, moisturise your skin very well. Holi colours can contain harsh chemicals and dry your skin out. For your body, put oil on to make sure the colour doesn’t cause dryness.

How should one prep their skin to achieve the no-makeup makeup look on Holi?

The spirit of Holi is to enjoy the colours, so I would suggest not to put any makeup on your face, just prep your skin well and have lots of fun!

What after-care would you suggest for skin post the festival?

I would suggest using a makeup towel with warm water to cleanse the face. Along with that, use a deep conditioning face wash and massage it really well to remove the colour. Use ice to cool down your skin if your skin is irritated.

Skip the makeup remover wipes and use a reusable makeup towel — they are gentle for your skin and also a more sustainable option

What makeup trends can one try this festive season to look bright and colourful?

Bold lip colours are really back! People are having lots of fun with that. My suggestion would be to keep your makeup simple and let your lip colour shine.

How should one gently, yet effectively, remove makeup and colours post their Holi parties?

A makeup towel is the way to go. It is gentle on the skin and can be reused too. Dip the makeup towel in warm water and remove the colours without irritating your skin too much.

Despite all efforts, when colour stains remain... how can we handle them?

Let the colour fade gently. Don’t use any harsh products to try to remove the colour. Use gentle cleansers and use an oil-based makeup remover to gently remove the colour. But you have to be patient — it might take time.
