The UK seems to have an obsession with strawberry desserts. From the simple strawberries-and-cream, as made famous by Wimbledon, to the equally simple, but more decadent strawberries with melted chocolate. The latter is a popular pick at London’s Borough Market. Recently, Indian food influencers like Shivesh Bhatia and Saloni Kukreja, among others, discovered this gem and recreated it in their reels, which went viral. And unexpectedly, it also entered the menus of cafes and confectioners across India. In the City of Joy, too, the viral dessert has made its entry and has instantly won hearts!

Haji Saheb, Park Circus

The strawberries-and-chocolate dessert started sparking the craze in Kolkata when videos from Haji Saheb went viral. A stall at the front of the restaurant has a live chocolate fountain – from where they pour liquid chocolate in a glass full of fresh strawberries. The place has become the cynosure of dessert lovers and influencers! If you haven't tried it yet, you have to visit this Haji Saheb stall in Park Circus pronto!

The Buttercream Co.

Pastry chef Priyanka Nahata, owner of The Buttercream Co., has quite literally been going places with the viral dessert. Recently, she was spotted at a food pop-up at Forum Mall. Functioning from her studio, she also accepts orders for home delivery of variants of the strawberries and chocolate cups. The three variants on offer are Milk Chocolate and Strawberries, Dark Chocolate and Strawberries and Rochers, Strawberries and Chocolates. So, what are you waiting for? MADI’s Bakery

This bakery on Lee Road, run by lawyer-turned-baker Diptendu Mukherjee, and teacher and baker Mahi Mittal, has joined the bandwagon to serve strawberry and chocolate in a pot alongside its freshly baked 100% eggless goodies. The juicy strawberries are dunked in a thick hot chocolate in a cup!

Make it at home!

Feeling lazy to go out? Or want to enjoy making it at home? The recipe is simple indeed!

Ingredients

  • Fresh, sweet strawberries: 8-10 pieces
  • Milk or dark chocolate: 50-100g
  • Butter: ¼ cup

Method

  • Thoroughly wash the strawberries in cold water using a pinch of baking soda
  • Dab them dry gently using a paper towel
  • Remove the stem and slice the crown of the strawberries
  • Put them in a glass
  • Chop the chocolate bar into small pieces
  • Using the double-boiler method melt the chocolate into a smooth and silky liquid
  • Pour melted butter and mix well
  • Now pour this in the glass filled with strawberries
  • You can use your favourite toppings to make it more tempting
