Located in the heart of Salt Lake, Sector V, Chicago Pizza’s newest outlet in town claims to bring the authentic taste of Chicago pizza. t2 got a taste of the sumptuous platter consisting of their signature dishes like Chicken Tikka Pizza, Red Sauce Penne Pasta and Molten Choco Lava. Chicago Pizza started its journey in 2008 in New Delhi and has branches across the country, with some of its prime locations in Calcutta being Park Street, Sovabazar, and Salt Lake.

The gastronomical experience was enhanced by folk musicians from across the world adorning the walls in colourful graffiti. The owners of the outlet, Gunamoy Ray and Snita Pramanik, shared their journey and inspiration behind bringing this blend of food and folk music together. Gunamoy, with 20 years of experience in hospitality and expansive knowledge of world cuisine, was on the search for a brand to invest in and found the perfect combination of potential and passion in Chicago Pizza. He was joined by folk singer Snita Pramanik, who brought her knowledge of folk music to the table. Ray and Pramanik shared their goals for this year, which involves including live music, a bar, new additions to the menu like Lebanese, Turkish and Chinese, and Gunamoy’s favourite fish ‘n’ chips. By Durga Puja, the restaurant aims to roll out most of these to give the city a pizza experience like no other.

“I am going to emphasise three things about this place — service, food quality and taste. The ambience is an added asset. Being from a hospitality background, my top priority is serving fresh food every day, as I believe freshness is the key to success. We make the dough in the morning and use it the same day. Chicago Pizza needs that balance, it has to be crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. We aim to serve just that,” said Gunamoy Ray. “We want to incorporate folk music from across the world, and so we have planned to invite artistes here for live performances to bring to the fore less-explored music. We have a lot of music-themed cafes in Calcutta, but one focusing on world folk music is rare in the entire Eastern region of India,” added Snita Pramanik.
