It’s World Chocolate Day! July 7 is celebrated internationally as International Chocolate Day, World Chocolate Day, or simply Chocolate Day. Lovers of the cacao creations know that you don’t need a special day to celebrate this incredible bean, but it’s nice to have its own day nonetheless!

If you’re a chocolate lover (and if you’re not, we’d still recommend this), try out these artisanal, luscious scoops from popular Kolkata eateries, bakeries and ice cream shops…

Mini Baked Alaska with Chocolate and Cherry from The Fat Little Penguin

As part of their special World Chocolate Day offerings, The Fat Little Penguin will be offering a TFLP Signature Mini Baked Alaska, mixed with a cherry compote and dark chocolate ice-cream to all customers that drop by their newly-launched Scoop Shop in Ballygunge. This one will cost you Rs 250 and is available only today (July 7, 2023)! On any other day, you can tuck into the brand’s best-selling chocolate scoops – After Dark and Nutella. The first one has light and dark chocolate mixed with feuilletine — shards of crispy French crepe, while the Nutella version stays true to the name. Both are available for Rs 160 per scoop.

Belgian Chocolate Ice Cream from Kookie Jar

Sinful. Seductive. Sensational. Kookie Jar’s Belgian Chocolate ice cream flavour will leave you craving for more. According to the Kapur sisters, the masterminds behind this landmark confectionery, the best-selling ice cream flavours are Belgian Chocolate and Cappuccino. Each batch is homemade, using only natural ingredients and fresh dairy cream. Moreover, they are eggless, free from preservatives, artificial flavours, or colourings. So you can indulge guilt-free!

Ruby Chocolate from Pabrai’s Fresh & Naturelle Ice Cream

The decadent and soul-stirring Ruby Chocolate ice cream is our pick from Pabrai’s Fresh & Naturelle Ice Cream. Available at any Pabrai’s outlet near you, this treat can be savoured for Rs 109 per scoop, or in the form of the convenient 500ml pack priced at Rs 525. The family-run homegrown brand is also celebrating Ice Cream Month with a ‘Everything Chocolate’ offer.

Fun fact: The Pabrais, who are no strangers to the dessert scene, were the owners of the yesteryear hangout spot, Tulika’s Ice Cream Parlour, located on Russell Street, best known for its signature Hot Chocolate Fudge.

Dark Chocolate & Olive Oil Ice Cream from Burma Burma

Burma Burma, a pan-Asian restaurant with a tea room is also known for its ice-cream creations. One of their recent gourmet offerings is an indulgent dark chocolate ice cream churned with extra virgin olive oil and dusted with olive dust. Operating out of Park Street’s Stephen Court address, you can get your plate of dessert for Rs 400.

Belgian Chocolate from Q33

Head to Q33, a coffee and pastry outlet located at the ground floor of Quest Mall, to dig into their Belgian Chocolate ice cream, which has a soft, silky texture, with mild sweetness, and just the right hit of dark chocolate-y bitterness. This one comes at Rs 175 (plus tax) for one scoop and Rs 300 (plus tax) for double the fun.

Bonus: Brazilian Kiss from LMNO_Q

One of the standout creations at Park Street’s skybar, LMNO_Q, is the Brazilian Kiss, a combination of Brazilian chocolate mousse and truffle delicately set in a chocolate nest. Served alongside is a delightful vanilla ice cream and a coffee macaron, making it a perfect order to satisfy your sweet cravings. This one comes at Rs 280. Pair it with a cocktail recommended by the in-house mixologist Biswajit Barua for a spirited high.
