Award ceremonies to feature special panel discussions

The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCC&I) is organising the first edition of the Social Leadership Awards and Corporate Governance Recognition on November 26. The Telegraph Online-My Kolkata is the digital media partner for the event.

The award ceremony shall feature specially curated panel discussions, followed by the announcement of awardees by the jury.

BCC&I Social Leadership Awards will aim to commemorate the most admired and outstanding development initiatives in West Bengal and acknowledge the notable contributions that are raising the benchmark by ushering transformative changes in society through innovation and excellence.

The jury members

The initiative would be assessed by an eminent jury comprising Bhaskar Chatterjee, former director general & CEO, Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs; Sumit Dasgupta, founder and director, Allcap Communications; Amitabh Shah, founder & chief inspiration officer, Yuva Unstoppable; Sanjay Prasad, executive director, Mission of Mercy Hospital and Research Centre, and Kunal Basu, professor, Saïd Business School and Research Fellow, Templeton College, Oxford University, UK.

As part of the Social Leadership Awards, two panel discussions will be organised, both of which will be moderated by Amitabh Shah.

Panel discussions and panelists

The topic for the first panel discussion is “Evolving Landscape of CSR in India”. The panellists are Bhaskar Chatterjee, Sumit Dasgupta, Neepa Saha Sharma, head (CSR), CESC Limited, and youth representatives from Shri Shikshayatan School.

The other panel discussion will be on “Role of NGOs in Equitable and Sustainable Development”. The panellists are Sujata Sen, CEO, Future Hope India; Joydev Mazumdar, executive director, Vidyasagar School of Social Work (Vidyasagar University); Abhishek Jain, associate principal (corporate advisory), Sattva Consulting; and youth representatives from La Martiniere for Girls school.

Following this, the first edition of the Corporate Governance Recognition will begin. The jury members are R.S. Bandyopadhyay, former secretary, ministry of corporate affairs; Asish K. Bhattacharyya, founder, Nonlinear Insights (OPC), and professor, Shiv Nadar University; advocate Vijay Jhalani, government nominee, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, and former government nominee, Institute of Company Secretaries of India and Institute of Cost Accountants of India; and Devendra V. Deshpande, president, Institute of Company Secretaries of India.

As part of the Corporate Governance Recognition, a specially curated panel discussion will be held. The session will be moderated by Kaushik Mukherjee, company secretary & chief legal, Phillips Carbon Black. Confirmation is awaited.

The panel will discuss “Revisiting Business and Corporate Governance” and the panellists are Bhaskar Chatterjee; Arnab Basu, advisory leader & member of the board of directors, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and senior vice-president, BCC&I; Devendra V Deshpande; and advocate Vijay Jhalani.

Altogether, 54 applications (from 37 NGOs and 17 corporates) were received for the Social Leadership Awards and 19 applications (13 from manufacturing and 6 from service industries) were received for the Corporate Governance Recognition.

Eminent members of the chamber, including Ravindra Chamaria, mentor, CSR committee of the chamber, and group chairman, Infinity Infotech Parks Limited; Jitendra Kumar, chairman, CSR and corporate governance committees of the chamber, and company secretary & president (legal & corporate affairs), Exide Industries Limited; and Abhijit Bandyopadhyay, co-chairperson, corporate governance committee of the chamber, and partner, Deloitte Haskins & Sells, will be present.

The chamber will bring together industry and thought leaders, policy makers, academicians, professionals, and non-profit and implementing agencies to build a knowledge forum. The initiatives will not only create a forum for the dissemination of knowledge but will also present a platform to connect and network among like-minded stakeholders.
