St. Xavier’s School Old Boys’ Association conducted its annual Co-Curricular Activities Carnival in association with The Telegraph at its junior school grounds last month. The first day saw spirited participation by the school’s students in a variety of events like cricket (junior school), public speaking (junior school), basketball (senior school), table tennis (senior school), skating (senior school), Western dance (senior school) and football (senior school), with cricketer Debabrata Das as chief guest. The second day consisted of events like chess (junior school), keyboards (senior school) and speech and drama (senior school). Both days witnessed a lively gathering of students, parents, teachers and other staff members.

The event came to a close with the 8th West Bengal Inter-School Karate Championship, which was jointly organised by the All India Seishinkai Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Federation. It saw participation by nearly 1,200 boys and girls in the age group of five to 17 from 30 reputed schools across Bengal and was held in different categories for Kata and Kumite (forms of karate) for boys and girls. The competition ended with the host school racking up the maximum number of winners in each category. Glimpses.
