Julien Day School students and teachers win accolades at annual function

A ramp walk and a question-answer round for the Mr and Ms Julienite titles added to the glamour quotient of the evening at EZCC, Salt Lake

1/7 The Kolkata, Kalyani, Howrah and Ganganagar branches of Julien Day School came together at Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre on April 29 to celebrate their gala annual awards function. Justice (retired) Asok Kumar Ganguly graced the event as the chief guest. Teachers, students and parents of all four branches of the school were in attendance. The curtains went up with a cultural dance performance by the students. The melody of songs like Anandaloke, Sangwachadwam and Aaguner poroshmoni filled the auditorium.

2/7 Justice (retired) Asok Kumar Ganguly lit the traditional lamp to inaugurate the function. He was assisted by Terrence John, principal, Julien Day School, Kalyani, and director, education development. John said: ‘The school annual award is very unique as we appreciate and felicitate those children who have done exemplary in extra-curricular activities and academics. We also acknowledge the contribution of the teachers and other staff members.’

3/7 Ganguly shared with the audience that he started his career as a teacher. ‘It’s a pleasant occasion and my regards to the school authorities. Before I can say anything about myself as a judge, I started my career as a teacher. So teachers, students and the education system are very dear to me. That was my first calling. Therefore I am immensely privileged and pleased to come here,’ he said.

Ganguly shared with the audience that he started his career as a teacher. ‘It’s a pleasant occasion and my regards to the school authorities. Before I can say anything about myself as a judge, I started my career as a teacher. So teachers, students and the education system are very dear to me. That was my first calling. 4/7 Several awards were given during the evening. The Julien Day Educational Trust contributed most of the academic felicitations of toppers and all-rounders. Moreover, individually initiated prizes were awarded to several students who performed remarkably well in specific subjects and co-curricular activities such as sports. Subhojit Guin, an ISC science topper for 2022, said: ‘I feel very honoured to receive this award. For my studies, I followed a strict time-table, which helped me a lot in maintaining my curriculum. I am currently studying BTech in IEM College in computer science.’

5/7 Some of the awards given out for the evening comprised the Sanjay Vohra Memorial Award for the Best Performance in Hindi in Class X, Late Mr Sandip Sarkar Memorial Award for the best performance in art, the Late Mrs Romola Roy Award for the Best All Rounder in the Junior School among others. Shiladitya Patra from Howrah won the award for all-rounder of the year from Class XII. He said: ‘I studied science in school. Currently, I am preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. The teachers here provide a very nice environment.’

6/7 The teaching and non-teaching staff have immense contribution towards making the four branches of the school one of the best in today’s education scenario. Their contributions were acknowledged and felicitated. Whether it is 25 years or service or thinking out of the box to impart education and support students, every little move was appreciated during the evening.

7/7 Students dressed up to compete for the Mr and Ms Julienite titles added to the fun and glitz of the evening. After a brief ramp walk, they had to face a question-answer round, which saw them perform with grace and élan to win the coveted titles.
