Alipore Sports Club organised the grand inaugural ceremony of the 10th Sub-Junior State Basketball tournament at the Majerhat Eastern Railway Sports Complex, on August 10. Graced by film director Ranjan Ghosh, actor Remo and vice-president of Alipore Sports Club, Manish Sharma, the tournament seeks to scout new talent and groom them eventually.

The colourful ceremony featured a range of acts, which included performances by Purulia singha dancers, stilt-walkers, football and basketball jugglers, Bankura’s Santhali dancers and so on.

This under-13 Sub-Junior division State Basketball Tournament featured participating clubs from all around West Bengal and beyond. There were 24 squads participating in the Boys and Girls category, competing in the tournament from across the state.

Teams from Howrah, Hooghly, Burdwan, Birbhum, and 20 reputed basketball teams from Kolkata geared up to fight it out on the court.

Speaking of the tournament and the intention behind it, Manish Sharma said, “The main reason we chose to organise this was to foster the growth of fresh potentials throughout the state. We are doing this to ensure that this event serves as a foundation for the development of the sport across the nation.”
