Almost a week after Mother’s Day, on May 19, film-maker Indira Dhar Mukkherjee organised an event to celebrate the senior citizens of St. Catherine’s Home who are mothers. The celebration occurred in the presence of five special guests — entrepreneur Gunnu Ahluwalia, WBCS officer Minakshi Bose, painter Swagata Bose, actress Moyna Mukherji and Shukla Bandyopadhyay, a teacher, who spoke on parenting and womanhood. It was attended by women who gave back to society through their profession while balancing motherhood.

Home to 70 mothers, the 250-year-old old-age home provides round-the-clock support to these mothers to help them live life to the fullest. The story of Dhar’s film The Green Window originated from this home and as an initiative to improve the lives of those who helped her grow, Dhar organised the event to share the idea of how mothers are a permanent source of support in everyone’s life. While the panel of five guests discussed many pertinent ideas related to motherhood and old-age homes, the mothers of the home were also entertained with dance and songs to make them feel special and happy.
