In fond memory of DJ Austin, who passed away last month, Dalhousie Insititute threw a party titled ‘The Party Line’, inspired by one of Austin’s favourite songs Don’t Miss the Party Line, in association with t2, on February 16. The celebrations revived the warm memories of the late DJ who ruled the city’s clubbing scene and gifted countless memories to party-goers of Calcutta through his eclectic mixes in the early 2000s. What indeed tugged at the heartstrings was none of the DJs who came together to celebrate the greatness of Austin agreed to be addressed as DJs for one evening. They smiled and said: “We are just our names only for today.” Some of Austin’s favourite dishes, like Chicken Stroganoff, Fish Florentine and Prawn Cutlets, were served. Glimpses.
Sanjay Dutta told t2: " Austin was a friend more than anything else. It was fun every time we got together. My relationship with him was beyond music. He had a sense of humour, just like me! We had made fond memories since 1999, the time I met him ."
Harish Lakhmani shared his memories of DJ Austin with t2. He said:" I met Austin in 1999 and played with him at quite a few parties and even a couple of times at Someplace Else. Austin was a very approachable person and I could speak to him at length. He was a huge fan of old English music, and he was instrumental in introducing Bollywood music along with English music at many places in Calcutta. And the trend remains to this day."
