Prakash – Aloi Phera, an innovative, creative art-based therapy programme run by Prakruthi Trust was inaugurated by Nilanjana Das Gupta, director of Directorate of Child Rights and Trafficking & member secretary, State Child Protection Society, Government of West Bengal on Friday at Nehru Children’s Museum.
The event was organised to mark the launch of Prakash – Aloi Phera, a programme designed to help victims of trauma recover through Creative Arts Therapy (CAT). The programme is being piloted at two shelter homes for the past 6 months and over 30 children have benefited from it.
The event was a medium for children to showcase their learning and growth. It showcased various performances by children, including two therapeutic pieces of arts (an amalgamation of drama and songs), live art corners where the children gave demos of creating their favourite artwork that they learnt during this therapy.
“Creative Arts Therapy is a novel and holistic therapy that reduces trauma experienced by victims of abuse. Creating a safe and growth-oriented environment for every girl through multidisciplinary solutions are a great way to ensure faster recovery, confidence and integration into society, especially when handled in a sensitive and creative manner”, said Nilanjana Dasgupta.
The event which took place in Kolkata, was attended by Mahua Sur Ray, chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, Kolkata; Supriyo Sarkar, joint director, Directorate of Child Rights and Trafficking, Government of West Bengal and other prominent senior members of DCRT were in attendance.
