Dr Amit Pual’s Missed the Journey, which he clicked in Chattogram this year, puts the focus on the group of men who missed a boat. “Capturing a mood was my intent, which was a bit challenging. Luckily, I could capture this scene as the clouds covered the sun and the men were left behind, wanting to get on the boat,” he explained.

“We humans have created such big structures that end up dwarfing us, the creators. I have deliberately kept the image black-and-white as colours may have distracted the mood of the image,” explained Chirag Ashis Sarkar, pointing to his picture titled Dwarfed by Our Own Creations. He took this photo at Malviya bridge in Varanasi in 2021.

Dr Arup Ratan Dutta bagged the third prize in the wildlife category for this photo titled Golden Runway, which he has clicked at Gajoldoba in West Bengal this year. The natural light crashing on the birds from behind makes this photo a visual delight.

Ophthalmologist Dr Amit Paul won the third prize for his photo titled Missed the Journey in nature category.

“Our club is full of talent. So we thought of organising a competition, followed by an exhibition of their own creations. This is the first time we have organised such a contest where participants are our own club members and their children. Hopefully, we have promoted a sense of aesthetics among our members,” said Abhijit Ghosh, president, Calcutta Club.

Renowned wildlife photographer Rajarshi Banerji was one of the judges at the event. He said: “Professional photographers look at their subjects in a certain way, but participants here are general people who take an interest in photography. They like to capture moments from their everyday life. As far as the parameters of evaluation were concerned, the participants had experimented with new subjects, which was interesting from the judging point of view. Some really good quality entries have emerged through this contest.”

Ramaditya Ray, chairman, social and culture committee, said: “It has been a fascinating journey of organising this contest. I am overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of the members of the club.”
