The Saturday Club hosted its first cake-mixing ceremony, in association with t2, on December 1, kicking off Christmas celebrations. The evening brought together distinguished members of the club to spread the cheer. The catering committee of the club organised the event under the leadership of Manash Borthakur.

Club member Durri Bhalla, chef, author and t2 columnist, was the chief guest of the evening and was an enthusiastic participant. Billiards champ Sourav Kothari, a club member, was also present. The members engaged in mixing 100kg of dried fruits, nuts and spices with wine, brandy and rum. Daniele Panfilo from the Italian consulate was the special guest of the evening. He expressed his nostalgia for cake-mixing back home and said that he enjoyed doing it here in Calcutta too.

Club president Shayak Gupta and vice-president Sanish Magon felicitated the guests of the evening. The event ended with high-tea comprising plum cake, pies and patties from the club’s bakery, Saturday Bakes.

“Following the revamp of the Club Bakery, Saturday Bakes, it is picking up well. Many thanks to our chief guest Durri Bhalla and special guests Daniele Panfilo and Sourav Kothari, for participating in this event. Sincere thanks to our catering committee and team for organising the first-ever cake-mixing ceremony in the club with immense precision. Traditionally, cake mixing is considered the harbinger of good times and happiness. A portion of the mix is saved for the coming year in the belief that it would bring another year of abundance,” said Shayak Gupta, president of the club.
