With a number of anime, manga and superhero fans present, the three-day second season of the Kolkata Comics Karnival (KCK) 2022, held at the ICCR, ended on November 13. While the grand show saw a huge participation of comic book lovers and artists, several cosplayers from the city had also “trouped” in. The first two days were all about panel discussions and workshops along with comics drawing, story writing and poster-designing competitions which were conducted and judged by senior graphic novelist and artist, Charbak Dipta and Harshomohan Chhattoray. On the third day, the main attraction was the cosplay competition which was judged by senior cosplayers Baisakhi Das and Shourya Shaw.
Not every day do you get to see Batman, Darth Vader and John Wick participating ‘peacefully’ at a discussion titled Comics and Cosplay. It was held on the third day of the KCK. Along with four cosplayers, artists Charbak Dipta and Harshomohan Chattoraj conducted the session.
Srija Bhattacharjee was seen as Mikasa.
Soumi Das stunned one and all as Kitana from Mortal Combat. Her costume and accessories were so perfect that several participants came up to her and praised her.
As the panel discussion was over, Batman (Sawrnab Das) and Scarecrow (Aditya Pal) were seen doing things, they do best... “It was to release the tension before the cosplay competition.”
Hrillekha Chattoraj as the Unicorn Princess, Alankrita Chattoraj as Elsa and Ruben Ray Aich as Spiderman, were the head turners at the event. It was hard to believe that it was their first cosplay show.
Even as the competition was yet to start, Aritrik Chakraborty as Dante, Suvajit Naskar as Yoriichi Tsugikuni and Argha Das as Zetsu ensured that they were there to win.
Pramit Gupta as Darth Vader and Subhankar Roy as Inosuke stunned the audience with their jaw-dropping performances.
Comics lovers poured over the books and the merchandise counter. An enthusiast, Ritika Shaw, said, “It was such a great show. Even though I am yet to learn about manga and anime characters, I love the superheroes and am looking for some posters,” she added.
