2/5 The theme for this popular south Kolkata puja, Tridhara Akalbodhon, on Monoharpukur Road is ‘Utsab’ (festival). Living up to its theme, the pandal and its surroundings have been done up in dreamy and vibrant structures with net-like mesh and a lot of colours in feather-like props. A few weeks ago, the committee released its Pujo special magazine towards which more than 50 writers have contributed

3/5 Naw Para Dada Bhai Sangha in Baranagar has come as a revelation this year too after its silicon Durga last year. Eco-friendly props being used this year include the top portions of tin containers cut out to do up the side-panels. Mesh of colourful wires too make up the decorations. The theme is based on the platform of life on which people are running all their lives. But the showstopper is a huge painting of an elderly lady resting her right cheek on her palm

4/5 As you step into Barisha Club, you are bound of touch a different level of enchantment and mystique. With its ‘Bhanga Gora’ theme, this Durga Puja pandal shows destruction on one hand and creation on the other. A club member said: ‘The way world peace is being challenged by war, disease and destruction, we have tried our level best to project how creation and rebirth can soothe all such things and restore peace on earth.’ Various sculptures of varied dimensions have been used in the pandal to convey the theme

5/5 In its 75th year, Barisha Sarbojonin Durga Utsov near Behala Sakherbazar has chosen ‘Milestone’ as its theme. The pandal is being decorated with different coloured stones sourced from different rivers of north Bengal. The stones are being meticulously sculpted to unveil the masterpiece of a pandal. The main mandap is being built in the shape of a big rock in hilly surroundings
