Ranchi woman pushed into fire for dowry by in-laws

Victim fighting for her life in RIMS

In yet another incident of dowry violence in the country, a 24-year-old Ranchi woman, married to a Dhanbad-based auto driver, was mercilessly beaten and pushed into the coke oven by her in-laws.

Soni Parveen's brother-in-law Anjana Gaddi and sister-in-law Santana Parveen fled from the scene of the crime along with two infant sons soon after the incident. The victim was first admitted to Sahid Nirmal Mahto Memorial Medical College, Dhanbad, and later rushed to RIMS Ranchi is battling for her life.

The younger brother of the victim lodged an FIR in this regard against the accused and charged that his elder sister was always tortured for dowry by her in-laws ever since her marriage in 2018.

“Her in-laws always demanded a refrigerator as part of the dowry which I could not afford,” said Gaddi and added that she was also teased and taunted by her in-laws for her unfair complexion and was referred to as Kali Maa.

“I received a call on March 21 at around 10.30 am from the number of my sister and she appeared to be quite afraid and nervous and informed that her brother-in-law and sister-in-law are beating her since early morning,” charged Gaddi.

“My mother who also talked to my sister on phone advised her to resolve the issue by seeking an apology from her in-laws,“ Gaddi said adding that around 4 pm on the same day, she was mercilessly pushed on the coke oven, leading to burn injuries.

“She was first admitted to SNMMCH in Dhanbad but was later referred to RIMS Ranchi,” elaborated Gaddi.

PK Singh, Officer in Charge of Bank More Police station said, “We have lodged the FIR on the complaint of Wahid Gaddi and raids are being conducted to arrest the accused persons”
