The campaign members have already in their meetings given a call to the non-BJP parties to select a consensus candidate for each of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand and avoid a split in anti-BJP votes to ensure the defeat of the BJP in the 2024 polls. In 2019, the BJP and its ally AJSU won 12 out of 14 seats while the Congress and JMM bagged one seat each.

On Wednesday, a delegation of the campaign members met Congress state president Rajesh Thakur and general secretary of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha Supriyo Bhattacharya and demanded a strong alliance and organised struggle in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

A memorandum that was handed over to both the leaders and addressed to the JMM, Congress and RJD (all three parties are part of the ruling alliance in Jharkhand) and also Left parties as part of the INDIA alliance appealed for a strong alliance to avoid a split in votes and oust the BJP at least in Jharkhand seats.

“The results of the recent Assembly elections in MP, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan have once again made it clear that INDIA alliance parties will have to ensure a strong and serious alliance at the grassroots level and oppose the anti-people policies, religion-based politics of the BJP-led central government. Clear commitment will have to be shown against opposing attitudes,” the memorandum informs.

It suggested a strong grassroots alliance and hinted that there are cracks among the INDIA alliance partners leading to spreading rumours in various constituencies.
