Police ruled out any business rivalry and suspect an extramarital affair to be the reason behind the attack

A petty contractor suffered serious injuries after he was shot at by unidentified men near his house at New Colony in Nabinagar area of Wasseypur, about 4km from coal town, in the wee hours of Thursday.

Shahid Hussain (36), who is also a property dealer and lives with his wife Rijwana Fatima (28), four brothers and parents, received one bullet injury on his head. He was first rushed to Central Hospital in Dhanbad from where he was referred to The Mission Hospital in Durgapur where he is currently admitted at the intensive care unit (ICU).

Police ruled out any business rivalry and suspect an extramarital affair with a woman in the neighbourhood to be the reason behind the attack.

The incident came to light around 5am on Thursday when a local milkman informed Shahid’s family members that he was lying in a pool of blood less than 20 metres from their house. Family members also said Shahid had left his house around 4.30am after receiving a call on his phone.

Talking to The Telegraph, DSP (law and order) of Dhanbad Mukesh Kumar, who rushed to the site along with Bank More thana OC Surendra Prasad Singh and other officers, said they had obtained some vital clues that indicated Shahid was attacked in connection with an extramarital affair with a local woman. “We can’t divulge any further details at the moment as that may hamper the investigation. We will soon crackdown the murder,” added Kumar.

Shahid had married Rijwana, a resident of Calcutta, two years back but the couple didn’t have a child yet.

Body found

Tthe body of a property dealer, Rajnish Rai (40), a resident of Cooperative Colony in Saraidhela, was found near the railway tracks near Dhokra halt, about 6km from Dhanbad district headquarters, on Thursday.

The incident came to light around 8am on Thursday when some passers-by noticed the body and immediately informed railway police. A team of government railway police reached the site and also informed Rajnish’s family members. The body has been sent to PMCH for post-mortem.

Police also recovered the scooter of the deceased near the railway tracks. Investigation is on.
