Calcutta, June 25 :    Calcutta, June 25:  They are all Madhyamik toppers and want to carve a niche for themselves in society. Suman Karmakar, who topped the list with a total of 761, wants to become an electronics engineer. Second boy Abhinandan Banerjee bagged 760 and his passion is to become a physician. Chetana Chaudhuri, who stood second jointly with Abhinandan and first among girls, too, wants to be an engineer. As soon as news of their success spread this afternoon, friends, relatives and local people made a beeline for their houses to congratulate them. Son of Abani Karmakar, a retired superintendent of the DVC, Suman is a fervent student of physics and mathematics. ?If I can?t get through the joint entrance exams to study engineering, I will do my graduation with honours in physics,? said Suman at his Bonhooghly residence. Topping the merit list has not made Suman, a student of the Baranagar R.K. Mission Ashram High School, heady. He is the sage and serious type who likes to be up to his ears in books. When he is not reading a textbook, he is leafing through the works of Satyajit Ray and Sunil Gangopadhyay. Painting is his hobby. Preparations for HS Suman, however, is modest and will remain content with studying his higher secondary from the local BT Road government sponsored school. He is serious about his studies and has already started taking tuitions for the higher secondary. Suman had eight tutors for Madhyamik. But Abhinandan, from St Xavier?s Collegiate School, is more at home with Stephen King?s horror tales. He has watched all World Cup cricket matches on TV and is a staunch supporter of East Bengal. ?I like to play cricket in my para, watch sports and music programmes on TV and like to watch good English and Hindi movies,? he said. A resident of Satyen Roy Road in Behala, Abhinandan is serious about pursuing a career in medicine. ?Biology is my favourite subject...I want to become a doctor...It is a noble profession,? he said. ?Apart from today, my happiest day was when I was admitted in St Xavier?s in 1989,? he added. Chetana, who shares the second position with Abhinandan, is perplexed by the news. ?I don?t believe it. I want to see my marksheet first,? she said at her residence in Durgabari in Malda. Ever since the news of her result spread, friends and neighbours started converging to her Durgabari More residence. She likes cricket. Riddhi Das, daughter of CPM legislator Robin Das, stood fourth scoring 756. She is a student of Bidhannagar High School in Salt Lake.
