On another BJP handle, @BJPcentralmedia, was an Amit Shah video. It was his campaign pitch on escaping defaulters such as Vijay Mallya. The party, otherwise active on social media, was quiet as Congress leads on different channels showed it was within shouting distance of majority in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

The Election Commission website at 10.55 am showed BJP leading in two seats in Madhya Pradesh, but early trends on news channels showed the Congress had surged ahead. Its lead was within touching distance of the majority figure of 116 in the 230-member Assembly.

The BJP was leading in just over 100 seats in Madhya Pradesh, the biggest state to vote in these Assembly elections which are being seen as the semi-final before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The morning saw a see-saw in the Congress's fortunes as the party seemed to be trailing but surged ahead in leads in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. After 11.30 am, the contest in Madhya Pradesh seemed to have become close, with just a seat's difference bwtween the BJP and the Congress in leads.

But the BJP Twitter handles, generally abuzz with the latest on the government and the Prime Minister, were quiet on the counting.

On one of BJP's several handles, @BJP4India, a pinned tweet from December 5 was on top. It was a campaign video of the kaamdar-naamdar refrain with Narendra Modi's voice in the background.
