Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday said there was “nothing more ‘political’ and ‘anti national’” than the government’s continued clampdown in Kashmir and attached a video showing a distraught woman narrating her woes to Rahul Gandhi.

“How long is this going to continue?” Priyanka asked. “This is one out of millions of people who are being silenced and crushed in the name of ‘Nationalism’.”

In the video, shot on the Opposition delegation’s flight back from Srinagar to Delhi, a woman is heard telling Rahul that even children as young as 10 were not being allowed to step out of their homes in Kashmir and that people going out to meet relatives were being picked up.

“My brother is a heart patient, he went out to meet his children. For 10 days he couldn’t be traced,” the unidentified woman tells Rahul after leaving her seat and walking up to him. She adds that there seems no end to Kashmiris’ suffering.

The video had been tweeted by a journalist, who was on the flight. A few other Opposition leaders, such as Congress veteran Ghulam Nabi Azad and Trinamul’s Dinesh Trivedi, can be seen in the video.

In her tweet, Priyanka said: “There is NOTHING more ‘political’ and ‘anti national’ than the shutting down of all democratic rights that is taking place in Kashmir. It is the duty of every one of us to raise our voices against it, we will not stop doing so.”

Rahul later tweeted: “It’s been 20 days since the people of Jammu & Kashmir had their freedom & civil liberties curtailed. Leaders of the Opposition & the Press got a taste of the draconian administration & brute force unleashed on the people of J&K when we tried to visit Srinagar yesterday.”

The former Congress president also posted a video showing the Opposition members trying to reason with the administration at Srinagar airport, when an official comes and reads out the order barring their entry.

The video shows Rahul telling the officials the governor had invited him. Governor Satya Pal Malik had on August 11 invited Rahul to come and see the situation for himself, but later backtracked claiming the Congress leader was setting “pre-conditions”.

Apart from four Congress members, the Opposition team was made up of Sitaram Yechury (CPM), D. Raja (CPI), Trivedi, Tiruchi Siva (DMK), Manoj Jha (RJD), Majeed Memon (NCP), Kupendra Reddy (JDS) and former JDU leader Sharad Yadav.
