Pakistan has said it plans to lodge a complaint against India at the UN, accusing it of “environmental terrorism” over air strikes that damaged pine trees.

Climate change minister Malik Amin Aslam said Indian jets had bombed a “forest reserve” and the government was undertaking an environmental impact assessment, which will be the basis of the complaint. Aslam said the “environmental terrorism” felled dozens of pine trees.

The UN General Assembly’s Resolution 47/37 states: “Destruction of the environment, not justified by military necessity and carried out wantonly, is clearly contrary to existing international law.”
