Odisha to have its first Metro rail project connecting Bhubaneswar and Cuttack

Odisha will soon have its first Metro rail project, connecting the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik will lay the foundation stone for the Metro rail project on January 1.

Chairman 5T (Transformational Initiatives) and Nabin Odisha (a rural development scheme), V.K. Pandian, reviewed the Metro rail project. The rail project will come up at a cost of Rs 5,929 crore and the entire cost will be borne by the Odisha government.

“The Phase I of the Metro Rail project will connect Bhubaneswar Airport with Trisulia Square near Cuttack via Chandrasekharpur, Jaydev Vihar, Vani Vihar, Master Canteen and Rajmahal Square," said a media release issued by the chief minister’s office.

The release further said: “A Master Plan for extending the Metro Rail service to other areas of Bhubaneswar and to Khurda, Puri and Cuttack towns is being developed through Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.”

The central depot of the Metro rail project will be located near Trisulia Square where the command and control centre as well as the maintenance and stabling facilities for the Metro trains will be constructed.

“A new bus stand is being constructed at Trisulia Square, which will be further expanded and integrated with Metro station,” said the release.

According to the schedule, the rail project will be completed within four years.
