Although the alleged suicide occurred on Sunday at Matiapada village under the jurisdiction of Konark police station, details emerged only after authorities initiated an investigation into the matter.

While local residents and the deceased's mother claimed that the girl ended her life after enduring sexual exploitation by her father, the police refuted the accusations.

After the incident, her father has been absconding.

The deceased's mother said: "My daughter was an exemplary student. My husband subjected us to relentless abuse. He had previously attempted to sexually assault her. I was not present during the incident, but I suspect he made advances towards her, which led to her tragic decision."

Inspector Purna Chandra Sethi of Konark police station told The Telegraph: "The deceased's father was employed at a garage and had a penchant for alcohol. His behaviour was often confrontational, extending to his wife and two daughters. He frequently clashed with the villagers as well. The girl documented her ordeal in the diary we seized from their residence."

Sethi said: "The couple have two daughters, with the elder one having tragically taken her own life. She was a promising student with aspirations of joining the IPS. The diary reveals ongoing disputes, particularly concerning the use of mobile phones. On the fateful day, her father, irked by her phone usage, resorted to verbal abuse, prompting her drastic action."

Amid the allegations of sexual abuse, authorities have enlisted medical professionals to conduct an investigation. "Had there been instances of sexual abuse, it would have been documented in the diary. Moreover, no physical evidence has been found on the body. We have initiated an inquiry into an unnatural death," stated Sethi.

During interrogation, the wife admitted to the strained relationship with her husband, characterised by frequent quarrels over trivial matters.

A local resident said: "Villagers suspect that the girl fell victim to her father's sexual abuse. Allegedly, the mother had cautioned him against such behaviour. However, his persistent assaults drove the girl to end her life in frustration and anguish on Sunday."
