In the election season, ‘kisne kisko topi pehnayi? (who made a fool of whom)’ becomes a hot topic but Indians now have a chance to adorn themselves or friends with mementos that have been gifted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A striking feature among the array of mementos at the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi is a collection of colourful headgear gifted to Modi, who is fond of making turban fashion statements during national occasions like Republic Day and Independence Day.

The mementos are being auctioned till Monday. Do not look for eye-popping gifts like the monogrammed suit the Prime Minister wore on the eve of Republic Day in 2015, which later fetched a record-breaking Rs 4.1 crore at an auction. The base prices for the mementos now on display range from Rs 200 (a blue shawl with tassels) to Rs 30,000 (a 2.22kg silver plate gifted by former BJP parliamentarian C. Narasimhan). But nothing prevents admirers from quoting record prices again. The proceeds from the auction will go to the Namami Gange project to clean the Ganga, which received the suit cash too.
