Hundreds of protesters have been spending days and nights on the road at Sabzibagh, braving the bitter cold in the Bihar capital like their fellow agitators in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh, to strengthen the people’s voice against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the National Register of Citizens.

CPI leader and former JNU Students’ Union leader Kanhaiya Kumar visited the protest site on Tuesday evening. He asked the protesters to reject the National Population Register, too, and chalked out a plan amid shouts of support from the agitators.

“The NPR is the first step towards the NRC. Reject it. Be mentally prepared for it.When the government babus (officials) come to your house for it from April onwards, meet them, offer lassi, water and food. Be nice to them,” he said.

“But when they ask you about your grandfather’s grandfather’s grandfather, ask them why Rs 15 lakh as promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after recovery of black money has not yet come to your bank accounts. You can also ask the government officials to tell the names of their nani’s (maternal grandmother’s) nani’s nani,” Kanhaiya said.

The CPI leader said the government at the Centre had the majority and had made laws on its basis, “but to obey them or not is in the hands of the public. We will do civil disobedience and will not accept their CAA, NPR, NRC. If the Centre wants to become British rulers, we will become revolutionaries like Ashfaqulla Khan and Ramprasad Bismil.”
