“All flights have been cancelled for the day due to bad weather at Srinagar,” an official of the Airports Authority of India said.

In a statement issued in Mumbai, private carrier IndiGo said six of its flights — four to Srinagar and two to Leh — were cancelled due to bad weather, PTI reported.

"Due to a drastic change in the weather conditions, the runway at Srinagar and Leh have been closed. This has led to the cancellation of four IndiGo flights to Srinagar and two IndiGo flights to Leh," the statement said.

The airline said while the passengers were informed about the cancellation, they were also been provided with options "to avail a full refund, travel to an alternate sector or reschedule the flight".

Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police said Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was blocked at Kishtwari Pather due to landslides.

Late in the evening, police said the road had been partially cleared for stranded vehicles but people had been advised to avoid travelling on the highway.

Parts of Kashmir woke up to a thick carpet of snow on Sunday. There was moderate to heavy snowfall overnight that brought smiles on the faces of countless people here.

The Valley had faced a weeks-long dry spell this year, literally giving it a desert-like look.

Snow clearance operations are being carried out since early on Sunday to ensure that the roads are traffic-worthy, officials said.
