When Yogi Adityanath called the army 'Modiji ki sena', the election Commission sent him a 'love letter', the Congress said today, criticising the poll panel for letting off the Uttar Pradesh chief minister lightly.
'Has the MCC now become 'Modi Code of Conduct'. Adityanath insults the Indian Army -- EC writes a love letter to him,' Congress' chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala tweeted.
Surjewala also remarked that when the Niti Aayog vice-chairman Rajiv Kumar criticised the Congress's proposed minimum income scheme Nyay, the election watchdog told him 'don't do it in future'. Why is the EC shying away from showing the mirror of truth to those in power, he asked.
After Adityanath replied to the Election Commission's query, the poll panel said: “The commission is not satisfied with Shri Yogi’s clarification. Hence, Shri Yogi Adityanath is advised not to use matters related to the army for political purposes and be cautious in the future.”
On Kumar's comment, the poll watchdog said: “Public servants should not only be impartial in their conduct but also in their public utterances, which was found wanting in the instant case. The commission has therefore decided to convey its displeasure to you for your comments and expects that you shall exercise caution in future.”
No further action will be taken against him unlike Andhra Pradesh chief secretary Anil Chandra Punetha, who has been replaced for defying the poll panel’s orders to transfer three officials.
