Chhattisgarh: World Bank approves Rs 2460 crore for improvement in quality of school education

The Project will help in the development and operation of 600 model schools while science and commerce education to be promoted in higher secondary schools with quality infrastructure

On the initiative of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, the World Bank has sanctioned an amount of Rs 2460 crore to improve the quality of education and infrastructure in the schools of Chhattisgarh and to encourage science and commerce education at the higher secondary level.

Nearly 40 lakh students coming from poor and weaker sections of society will be benefited from this project.

Swami Atmanand English and Hindi medium Schools have been opened in the state to provide quality education to the students of underprivileged communities. In addition, many innovative initiatives are also being taken in the field of education.

The Chhattisgarh Accelerated Learning for a Knowledge Economy Operation (CHALK) project has been commenced to improve access to education across all grades and to address the growing demand for science and commerce studies at the senior secondary level. Under this project, residential facilities for students and teachers will be provided for the schools in remote locations.

Now with the amount sanctioned by the World Bank, this project aimed at providing housing, increasing the enrollment rate of students in schools, improving the quality of education and promoting science and commerce education in secondary schools of the state, to increase the number of science and mathematics teachers, to strengthen the necessary infrastructure in laboratories, and to provide accommodation facilities to the students coming from remote areas to study will be implemented.

600 model schools to be developed and operated in the state

This World Bank project will help develop and operate about 600 model schools from class 1 to 12 and encourage science and commerce education at the secondary level.

Trained teachers, strong leadership and adequate infrastructure for learning management will be provided in the schools. The project will help in compensating for the learning loss during COVID-19. Under the project, teachers will be provided training to make the classroom lessons fun-learning and engaging experience for the students.
