The BJP will counter the “misleading” information on abrogation of special powers to Jammu and Kashmir by launching a national mass awareness campaign to tell people of the significance of the decision, the party announced on Monday.

The campaign will run all of September with 35 big meetings and 370 smaller ones, BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan said at a news conference in New Delhi. The number of meetings are “symbolic” of Articles 35A and 370, he said.

Four of such meetings will be held in Kashmir, two in Jammu and three in Ladakh.

“There are forces inside the country as well as outside who have tried to mislead people away from the reality of the issue. People have an emotional link with the issue, but we want to ensure that people have a comprehensive understanding of it,” Gajendra Shekhawat, another party leader said at the news conference.

Pradhan said the motive of the campaign was to tell people about the nitty-gritty of the decision and to explain to them that the abrogation of special powers to the state was necessary for “logical and practical” purposes.

He said there were elements in society who “isolated” themselves by speaking against the decision, hinting at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and termed such people “perennial trouble creators” who “cannot think positively”.
