The BJP is leading in 283 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, according to the Election Commission data at 10,30 am.
The Congress is leading in 49 states.
In Bengal, Trinamul seems to have suffered a dent according to initial TV trends in the morning, is leading in 24 seats. In around 17 seats, BJP is leading.
Initial tallies showed that Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, whose comment that Nathuram Godse is a desh-bahkt had raised fears of polarisation, has a lead of 30,000 over Digvijaya Singh of the Congress. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said he would not be able to forgive Pragya 'from his heart', but BJP chief Amit Shah had defended her candidature.
Congress chief Rahul Gandhi is trailing Smriti Irani narrowly by 1,931 votes. In Wayanad, rahul has a lead of over 90,000 votes.
In Begusarai, Kanhaiya Kumar of the CPI is trailing Giriraj Singh, the loose cannon BJP MP, by over 30,000 votes.
The BJP's Jaya Prada, who was contesting from Rampur and had become the subject of sexist ridicule by Samajwadi Party's Azam Khan, is also trailing by 18,374 votes.
Maneka Gandhi, who was barred for 48 hours by the Election Commission for communal remarks, by around 6,000 votes.
