BJP president J.P. Nadda on Thursday accused the Opposition alliance INDIA and the ruling dispensation in Bihar of corruption, promoting their families, and indulging in the politics of appeasement while ignoring the backward castes.

Asserting that “poverty” was the biggest caste in the country, the BJP president said that it was time to “take it forward”.

Nadda was addressing a meeting of party workers in Patna to commemorate the 100th anniversary of veteran Jan Sangh and BJP leader Kailashpati Mishra. Bihar BJP president Samrat Choudhary, Union ministers Giriraj Singh and Ashwini Kumar Choubey, several MPs and senior leaders were present on the occasion.

His visit came just three days after Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary during which Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s government released the caste-based survey report that shows OBCs make up 63 per cent of the state’s population.

“This INDI Alliance (The BJP does not call the Opposition alliance with its acronym INDIA) is standing on the pillars of family politics, corruption and appeasement. Its example is spread from the top to the bottom of the country,” Nadda said.

“Farukh Abdullah – Omar Abdullah, Mufti Muhammad Saeed – Mehbooba Mufti in Kashmir, Prakash Singh Badal – Sukhbir Badal in Punjab, Mulayam Singh Yadav – Akhilesh Yadav – Dimple Yadav in Uttar Pradesh, Lalu Prasad – Tejashwi Prasad Yadav – Misa Bharti here, bua Mamata Banerjee and bhatija Abhishek Banerjee in Bengal, KCR – KTR – Kavitha in Telangana, Karunanidhi – Stalin in Tamil Nadu, Uddhav Thackeray – Aditya Thackeray in Maharashtra are the examples,” Nadda added.

He asked the people not to forget Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi who were also the example of families in politics.

“If we talk about Lalu, the father, mother, son and daughter have taken bail just yesterday (Wednesday). Can we forget the fodder scam? The second wicket of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) fell yesterday (Wednesday) when its leader Sanjay Singh went to jail in the excise scam. We must remember that only the BJP indulges in the politics of development,” Nadda said.

In an apparent reference to the caste-based survey report that was recently released in Bihar, the BJP president said that these days people are talking in terms of backward castes (BC), OBC, EBC, but they should remember that it was only our party that fought for all of them.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government gave constitutional status to the OBC Commission. Why did not the Congress government, the UPA government of which Lalu was also a part, do it? Our government has worked for all — Dalits, farmers, women, youth, tribals, the exploited and the victimised people. The BJP has 27 per cent OBC MPs, which is more than the number of total MPs of the Congress. On the other hand, those who used to raise slogans of social justice, indulged in filling the coffers of their families,” Nadda said.
