Governor Satya Pal Malik on Monday asked Pakistan to “mend (its) ways” or be ready for India’s army to cross over, speaking a day after the army claimed to have destroyed three “terror camps” and killed nearly 20 people in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
“Pakistan must behave. If they don’t mend their ways, what happened yesterday —more than that will happen,” Malik told reporters. “We will completely destroy the terrorist camps and if they don’t mend their ways, we will cross over.”
He, however, added that war was no solution and asked the militants to join the peace process.
The Tangdhar sector witnessed an escalation on Saturday night, with India’s army reporting the death of two Indian jawans and a civilian and Pakistan putting the toll on its side at five civilians and a soldier. Both countries claimed to have inflicted heavy casualties on the other side.
Officials said there was no cross-border firing on Monday but the situation remained tense.
