In a major security breach on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, two persons jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during Zero Hour and released yellow gas from canisters and shouted slogans before being overpowered by MPs. Around the same time, two persons, including a woman, also sprayed coloured gas from canisters while shouting slogans 'tanashahi nahi chalegi' outside the Parliament premises. Six people were involved in Parliament smoke scare and four of them have been arrested, while the other two are on the run.

India has voted in favour of a draft resolution in the UN General Assembly that demanded an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict and unconditional release of all hostages. India was among the 153 nations that voted in favour of the resolution, adopted amid a round of applause in the GA hall.

Vishnu Deo Sai, the BJP legislative party leader and MLA from Kunkuri seat, was sworn in as the chief minister of Chhattisgarh. Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Sai and his two deputies during a grand ceremony held at the Science College ground attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president JP Nadda, Union ministers Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari, and chief ministers of some states.

Representatives from nearly 200 countries agreed at the COP28 climate summit on to begin reducing global consumption of fossil fuels to avert the worst of climate change, a first of its kind deal signaling the eventual end of the oil age. COP28 President Sultan Al Jaber called the deal 'historic' but added that its true success would be in its implementation.

ISRO chairman S Somanath said the space agency has decided to indigenously develop the environmental control and life support system (ECLSS) for the upcoming human space flight mission Gaganyaan, after it failed to get it from other countries. "We have no experience in developing an environmental control life support system. We were only designing rockets and satellites. We thought that this knowledge would come from other nations, but unfortunately after so much discussion, nobody is willing to give it to us," Somanath said.

Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud assured the counsel for Trinamul Congress leader Mahua Moitra that he would take a call on the urgent listing of her plea challenging her expulsion from the Lok Sabha. On December 8, after a heated debate in the Lok Sabha over the panel report during which Moitra was not allowed to speak, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved a motion to expel the TMC MP from the House for "unethical conduct" which was adopted by a voice vote.

Three people died and at least 10 people have reportedly sustained injuries after an overhead water tank on platform numbers 2 and 3 collapsed at the Burdwan railway station around 12.10 pm. All injured have been shifted to the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital.

After recovering Rs 350 crore in cash and 3 kg of gold on the premises of a company owned by Jharkhand Congress MP Dhiraj Prasad Sahu's family, the Income Tax department has been using high-tech gadgets to recover more valuable items that could be hidden below the ground, an official said. Eyewitnesses said several I-T teams on vehicles bearing Odisha and Jharkhand registration numbers are engaged in searches at Ranchi and Lohardaga premises linked to the Rajya Sabha MP.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced a bill in the Lok Sabha to raise the age limit for president and members of GST appellate tribunals. An advocate with 10 years of 'substantial experience' in litigation in matters relating to indirect taxes in the Appellate Tribunal, would be eligible to be appointed as a judicial member of the GSTAT.

One of India's ODI World Cup heroes, pacer Mohammed Shami has been recommended for this year's Arjuna Award by the country's cricket board (BCCI), sources said. As per ministry sources, a special request was made by the BCCI to the Sports Ministry to include Shami's name as originally he didn't feature in the list of the country's second-highest sporting honour.
