In a major setback to the State Bank of India, the Supreme Court trashed its plea seeking an extension of time and ordered it to disclose the details of electoral bonds to the Election Commission by close of business hours on March 12. The bench, also comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, B R Gavai, J B Pardiwala, and Manoj Misra, put the SBI on notice that the apex court may be inclined to proceed against it for "wilful disobedience" of its February 15 verdict if the bank failed to comply with its directions and timelines.
A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking to restrain the Centre from appointing new election commissioners as per a 2023 law, the provisions of which have been challenged in the apex court. The plea has been filed by Congress leader Jaya Thakur, who has challenged the provisions of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and terms of office) Act, 2023.
Delhi High Court sought the stand of the city police on student activist Sharjeel Imam's plea seeking bail in connection with a 2020 communal riots case involving allegations of sedition and unlawful activities. The counsel appearing for the accused said the trial court wrongly refused to grant him bail even though he has undergone more than half of the maximum sentence that can be awarded to him in case of a conviction.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Kerala's Palakkad on March 15 to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, party sources said in Thiruvananthapuram. Party sources said that Modi will conduct a massive roadshow upon his arrival in Palakkad.
Supreme Court rejected a Maharashtra government application seeking a stay on the acquittal of former Delhi University professor G N Saibaba and others in the Maoist links case, and said the Bombay High Court order clearing them of the charges is "prima facie well-reasoned". The bench also rejected the oral request of Additional Solicitor General S V Raju, appearing for the Maharashtra government, for early listing of the appeal and said it will come up for hearing in due course of time.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar asserted there is no question of releasing Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu at any cost now. "There is no question of releasing Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu now at any cost, we have not left (released)....How much water flows to Tamil Nadu, there is an account for it. Even if water is released today it will take four days to reach there," Shivakumar, who is also the water resources minister, told reporters.
Supreme Court dismissed the West Bengal government's plea challenging a Calcutta High Court order for transferring to the CBI the probe into the January 5 attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team in Sandeshkhali. The bench noted the submission of Additional Solicitor General SV Raju that he has no objection to expunction of the remarks if the final order transferring the probe to CBI remains as it is.

A 36-year-old woman from Hyderabad was found murdered in Australia and her husband, who allegedly killed her, flew to Hyderabad and handed over their child to her parents. She was staying with her husband and son in Australia.
