Prime Minister Narendra Modi held wide-ranging talks with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, focussing on shoring up bilateral trade and defence ties. The strategic partnership between India and Saudi Arabia is crucial for regional and global stability and welfare, Modi said during his talks.

Supreme Court extended till September 15 its order asking the Manipur Police not to take any coercive steps against four members of the Editors Guild of India (EGI) in connection with two FIRs lodged against them for alleged offences, including promoting enmity between two communities. On September 4, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had said a police case had been filed on the basis of a complaint against the president and three members of the Editors Guild of India and accused them of trying to 'provoke clashes' in the state.

The ED has asked Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee to appear for another round of questioning on September 13 which coincides with the date of the first scheduled meeting of the coordination committee of the INDIA alliance of Opposition parties which is scheduled to take place in Delhi. Banerjee confirmed that he will appear before the ED on September 13 as summoned by the central agency.

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has written to Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch expressing grief at the loss of lives caused by an earthquake in the country. In his letter, the Dalai Lama said he has asked the Gaden Phodrang Foundation of the Dalai Lama to make a donation towards the rescue and relief efforts in Morocco.

Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhury questioned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s decision to attend the dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu on the occasion of G20 meet in New Delhi, asking if that would not weaken her stance against the Narendra Modi government. The TMC hit back at Choudhury, saying that Banerjee is one of the prime movers behind the non-BJP bloc INDIA and the Congress leader did not need to lecture her about certain protocols to be followed from the administrative point of view.

Congress-led UDF Opposition's Chandy Oommen, who retained the party's bastion Puthuppally with a historic margin in the September 5 bypoll, took oath as its new MLA, filling the seat left vacant by the death of his father and party stalwart Oommen Chandy. Oommen had trounced his main rival Jaick C Thomas of the CPI(M) by a margin of 37,719 votes in the bypoll.

Traffic snarls, angry audience denied access despite coughing up huge sums, crying children and jostling people, these were the scenes at a concert organised by musician AR Rahman in Chennai on September 10, due to alleged mismanagement of the grand show, titled 'Marakkuma Nenjam,' meaning 'Can the heart forget.' Rahman said he would respond to the grievances of his audience who said they suffered because his concert was 'mismanaged' and indicated that the ticket price would be refunded.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the new assembly complex on the inaugural day of the autumn session of the legislative assembly. The new building of the Assam Legislative Assembly was inaugurated on June 30 by Parliament Speaker Om Birla.
