Gaza lost communications in its third total outage of the Israel-Hamas war, while Israel's military said it encircled Gaza City and divided the besieged coastal strip into two. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken took his diplomatic push on the Israel-Hamas war to the occupied West Bank, trying to assure Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that the Biden administration was intensifying efforts to ease the plight of Gaza's civilians and insisting that Palestinians must have a main say in whatever comes next for the territory after the conflict.

Environment Minister Gopal Rai announced that the odd-even car rationing scheme will be enforced in Delhi from November 13 to 20 as a measure to combat air pollution. Pollution levels in Delhi-NCR were recorded around seven to eight times above the government-prescribed safe limit, as a toxic haze persisted over the region for the seventh consecutive day.

An earthquake of 5.6 magnitude struck west Nepal on Monday and strong tremors were felt in parts of north India, the National Centre for Seismology said. The quake triggered panic among people, with many in Delhi and the National Capital Region reporting vigorous shaking of furniture.

The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee meeting to consider and adopt its draft report on the cash-for-query allegations against TMC MP Mahua Moitra has been postponed to November 9 from November 7, according to a notice from the Lok Sabha secretariat. The convening of the meeting for adopting the draft report means that the committee headed by BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar has finished its enquiry and will now be making its recommendation after its members ranged along party lines in their last deliberations on November 2.

Supreme Court deferred post Diwali vacation hearing on pleas of NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha and its HR head Amit Chakravarty against their arrest under anti-terror law UAPA. Kapil Sibal, appearing for both the accused, said the matter is covered by the recent judgement of the apex court under which it was held that grounds of arrest has to be immediately shared with the accused but in this case, nothing was shared.

Supreme Court said the apex court registry will look into the issue of listing for hearing PILs related to allegations of stock price manipulation by the Adani group. “The matter was to be listed on August 28, but it has been deferred, deferred, deferred,” lawyer Prashant Bhushan said.

A parliamentary committee on home affairs adopted three reports on bills to replace the existing criminal laws with some opposition members submitting dissent notes, sources said. Parliamentary sources said some opposition members had already submitted their dissent notes to the reports on the three bills to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872 with Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, respectively.

The sale of the 29th tranche of electoral bonds started amidst assembly elections in five states -- Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram. The government approved issuance of the latest round of electoral bonds, days after the Supreme Court reserved its verdict on a batch of petitions challenging the validity of the electoral bonds scheme for funding political parties.

Supreme Court directed the Centre to lay down a national model for building toilets commensurate with the number of girl students in all government-aided and residential schools across the country. The bench, also comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, said the Centre should bring uniformity in the procedure for distribution of sanitary napkins.

A sub-inspector who was investigating the snake venom case in which YouTuber Elvish Yadav is an accused has been shunted and the matter transferred to another Noida police station, officials said. A senior officer requesting anonymity said the case has been handed over to Sector 20 police station for further investigation.
