Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled a 'White Paper on the Indian Economy' in the Lok Sabha. The NDA government has overcome the crisis of those years, and the economy has been put firmly on a high sustainable growth path with all-round development, Sitharaman said.

Congress released a 'black paper' to counter the Narendra Modi government's 'white paper' on its performance over the past 10 years, targeting the Centre over its many claims, most notably, job creation. The Congress's move comes ahead of the BJP government's white paper, listing its achievements since it came to power in 2014.

Bidding farewell to members retiring from the Rajya Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the contribution of his predecessor Manmohan Singh to the House. In a sarcastic jibe at the Congress, he thanked Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge for coming out with a 'black paper' against his government and referred to it as 'kaala teeka' (to ward off the evil eye) in the midst of good work being done by his government.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Centre has decided to scrap the India-Myanmar Free Movement Regime (FMR) to maintain the country's internal security and demographic structure of the northeastern states. FMR allows people residing close to the India-Myanmar border to venture 16 km into each other's territory without any documents.

Reserve Bank of India decided to keep policy rate unchanged for the sixth time in a row in view of global uncertainty and the need to bring down retail inflation to 4 per cent. RBI had last raised repo rate in February 2023 to 6.5 per cent after six consecutive rate hikes aggregating to 250 basis points since May 2022.

Enforcement Directorate has summoned Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand Dhiraj Prasad Sahu for questioning in a money laundering case in which the central agency recently arrested former chief minister Hemant Soren, official sources said. The MP is understood to have been summoned to appear on February 10 at the ED office in Ranchi.

Bengal Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya presented the budget for 2024-25 with a slew of policies for social welfare and employment generation, even as she accused the Centre of imposing a 'financial blockade' on the state. The minister also announced an additional 4 per cent dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees from May, in addition to the 4 per cent that was declared in January.

People in Pakistan voted in the general elections in which former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is hoping to secure a record fourth term with the backing of the powerful military amid a crackdown on his rival Imran Khan's party and terror attacks on security personnel. Soon after the voting started, mobile services in Pakistan were suspended due to the 'deteriorating security situation', a day after twin terror attacks killed at least 30 people in Balochistan province.

AAP announced three candidates for as many seats in Assam for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and hoped that the INDIA bloc will allow them to contest from these constituencies. AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak rued that there is less time remaining for the polls and stressed that with time running out, it will become difficult to contest polls.

Accused of rape under the stringent POCSO act, Arjuna award-winning Indian hockey player Varun Kumar has withdrawn from the FIH Pro League in Bhubaneswar to explore his legal options against the allegation, which he described as a 'calculated attempt to extort money' from him. Varun has been booked by the Bengaluru Police after a woman accused the defender of sexually abusing her multiple times when she was a minor.
