Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that the Congress would have taken 20 years to do the kind of development work which was executed by his government in the last five years in the Northeast. "The Northeast is going to become a strong link in India's trade, tourism and other relations with South Asia and East Asia. Today, projects worth over Rs 55,000 crore have been unveiled here," he said.
Six years after its founding and fighting two elections by itself, actor Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) joined the ruling DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu and extended its support to the bloc for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Haasan and the ruling party President and Chief Minister M K Stalin finalised the deal at the DMK headquarters Anna Arivalayam in Chennai.
Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu held second round of talks with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president J P Nadda as the two parties worked to seal their alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. BJP MP from West Bengal's Jhargram Kunar Hembram said he has resigned from his party for "personal reasons". "For the time being I will continue as MP as my tenure will end in two months. People will face problems if all of a sudden their MP quits," he said.

Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) said it has arrested Jaffer Sadiq, a former DMK party functionary in Tamil Nadu, in connection with an international drugs trafficking investigation case estimated to be worth more than Rs 2,000 crore. he federal anti-narcotics agency has termed Sadiq as the "mastermind and kingpin" of this illicit network spread between India, Australia, and New Zealand.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan decided to refer to the CBI the investigation into the recent death of a Veterinary University student that has rocked the state. A statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said that the father and relatives of the student -- 20-year-old Sidharthan J S -- came to meet Vijayan and demanded that the case be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
YouTuber Elvish Yadav and a few others with him allegedly assaulted a Delhi-based content creator in a shopping mall in Gurugram in Sector 53 area, police said. The complainant Sagar Thakur, a Delhi resident, also claimed that Yadav "tried to break his spine" and "threatened to kill him".
