Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Congress and its allies in the new 'ghamandia' alliance supported the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament 'reluctantly' as there was no way out and warned people that if given an opportunity, they will backtrack on it. He also said Congress would push Madhya Pradesh back into the BIMARU (laggard) category if given an opportunity again.

Terming the relationship with India as 'important', Canada's Defence Minister Bill Blair said that his country will continue to pursue partnerships like the Indo-Pacific strategy while the investigation of the killing of a Sikh separatist leader continues. India angrily rejected the allegations as 'absurd' and 'motivated' and expelled a senior Canadian diplomat in a tit-for-tat move to Ottawa's expulsion of an Indian official over the case.

The Congress will hold press conferences in 21 cities in which 21 women leaders will 'expose the Modi government' on the issue of women's reservation, the party said. Ranjeet Ranjan will hold a press conference in Bhubaneswar, Alka Lamba in Jaipur, Amee Yagnik in Mumbai, Ragini Nayak in Ranchi and Shama Mohamed in Srinagar, among others.

Supreme Court directed the Uttar Pradesh government to appoint a senior IPS officer to probe the case of a school boy who was allegedly slapped by his classmates on the instruction of his teacher in Muzaffarnagar, terming the incident as 'serious'. It said there is a prima facie case of failure on part of the Uttar Pradesh government in complying with the provisions of Right To Education Act, which deals with providing quality, free and compulsory education to children up to 14 years, without any discrimination on the basis of caste, creed or gender.

A Dalit woman was allegedly stripped, assaulted and urinated on her mouth by a moneylender and his associates in Bihar’s Patna district apparently for complaining to the police about his 'unjustified' demand for more money even after full repayment of the debt, an officer said. “I have given standing instruction to police and administration to handle such an incident on a priority basis. Strict action will be taken against those involved in it,” Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said.

The Delhi High Court issued fresh notice to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on a plea by an NGO seeking damages, claiming its documentary 'India: The Modi Question' casts a slur on the country's reputation and makes false and defamatory imputations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian judiciary. The counsel for the petitioner NGO informed the high court that notices were issued to BBC (UK) and BBC (India) earlier but they could not be served.
