A Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle of ISRO on Saturday successfully placed earth observation satellite (Oceansat) into a sun-synchronous orbit, Indian Space Research Organisation said on Saturday.

The 44.4 metre tall rocket lifted off at a prefixed time at 11.56 am from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at this spaceport at the end of a 25.30 hour countdown.

After reaching the intended orbit nearly 17 minutes after PSLV-C54 lifted off, the Earth Observation Satellite or the Oceansat successfully separated from the rocket.

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday paid floral tributes to the martyrs who laid down their lives while fighting terrorists who had attacked the metropolis on this day 14 years ago.

Family members of the policemen, who lost their lives during the November 2008 attacks, also paid tributes to the martyrs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said fulfilling fundamental duties should be the first priority of citizens to take the nation to greater heights as it marches ahead towards the centenary of its independence.

Addressing Constitution Day celebrations at the Supreme Court, Modi said the entire world is looking at India which is witnessing rapid development and economic growth.

The prime minister said the country is set to assume the G-20 presidency next week and this is a big opportunity to present its contribution to the world.

Farmer unions take out marches to Raj Bhavans across the country on Saturday to mark two years since they launched their agitation against the now-repealed three farm laws.

The farmer leaders have alleged that the Union government had no intention of fulfilling their promises and that there was a need of a bigger agitation. The marches will also register the farmers' protest against non-fulfilment of various promises by the government.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi interacted with a woman ragpicker as his Bharat Jodo Yatra passed through a town in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, during which she told him about the issues she and her family faced, including lack of basic amenities like electricity and water.

The foot march led by Gandhi entered the fourth day of its Madhya Pradesh leg on Saturday.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday released its manifesto for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly polls and promised to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and also create an 'Anti-radicalisation Cell' to identify and eliminate potential threats as well as sleeper cells of terrorist organisations and anti-India forces.

The party's other promises include creation of "20 lakh employment opportunities" and take the state's economy to USD one trillion in the next five years.

Veteran film, television and stage actor Vikram Gokhale died on Saturday due to multi-organ failure at a city-based hospital where he was undergoing treatment.

Gokhale, 77, was admitted to the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital here two weeks ago.

"We are saddened to announce that noted actor Vikram Gokhale passed away today at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital due to multi-organ failure," the hospital said in a statement.

A Delhi Court on Saturday sent Aaftab Amin Poonawala, accused of killing his live-in partner and chopping her body into 35 pieces in south Delhi's Mehrauli, to judicial custody for 13 days, police said.

Police have initiated the legal process for the production of the accused for further proceedings in the polygraph test, Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order, Zone II) Sagar Preet Hooda said.

Swaraj Dweep, popularly known as Havelock Island, in Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been decked up to host one of the much-awaited meetings of the G20 Presidency which will be held on Saturday afternoon.

Spread over an area of 92.2 sq km and having a population of 5,500, Swaraj Dweep is two-and-half-hour by sea journey from Port Blair in government ferries and private cruises.

A boat carrying 34 pilgrims capsized in the Ganga in Varanasi on Saturday morning, but they were promptly rescued, police said.

The pilgrims, who are from Andhra Pradesh, were in the boat when it capsized in front of the Sheetla Ghat, police said. Local boatmen and the river police rescued the devotees.

Two of them are undergoing treatment for minor injuries, it said.
