The Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, who was touring Scotland this week was blocked from entering a gurdwara in the city of Glasgow by pro-Khalistan extremists.

During a planned visit to Glasgow Gurdwara Guru Granth Sahib on Albert Drive on Friday, members of Sikh Youths UK posted videos of their face-off with gurdwara officials as a few of them approached the High Commissioner’s car and asked him to leave. The local police said it was called to the “disturbance” and its enquiries remain ongoing.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said India and Canada should talk to each other to resolve their differences over the death of a Khalistani separatist, but the larger issue of the Canadian government's "permissiveness" to terrorism, extremism and violence must be flagged and addressed.

During an interaction with Indian journalists here on Friday, he said India was ready to look into the information related to Canada's allegations of the "potential" involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on June 18 in British Columbia.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh Saturday iterated that security personnel involved in the "excessive use of force" against students during a crackdown on a protest rally here in connection with the alleged killing of two students will be punished.

Expressing shock over the incident in Imphal area which more than 100 students were injured in clashes with security forces on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, Singh, who was speaking at the sidelines of a programe here, said "I am really shocked at the excessive use of force ... at what was done to the children. Ministers of the state have personally met the injured students." Inquiry is on into the serious injury to the students. "Those responsible for the extreme injuries will be arrested and be dealt with legally," the chief minister said.

Top seeds India upstaged traditional rivals Pakistan in a sensational duel to claim the gold medal in the men's team squash event at the Asian Games here on Saturday.

The hero of the day was Chennai's Abhay Singh, who kept his composure and raised his game to get the better of Noor Zaman 3-2 in a seesaw decider, in which the 25-year-old Indian saved two gold medal points to emerge triumphant and throw his racquet in the air. This was after the seasoned Saurav Ghosal brought the Indians back into the contest with a 3-0 win over Muhammad Asim Khan after Mahesh Mangaonkar lost the opener to Iqbal Nasir by an identical margin.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Friday ordered an immediate inquiry into Tamil actor Vishal’s allegations that he had to pay Rs 6.5 lakh to the CBFC’s Mumbai office for the screening and certification of the Hindi version of his film “Mark Antony”. Vishal levelled the allegations of corruption against the Mumbai office of CBFC in a post on microblogging site X on Thursday.

In a post on Friday, the ministry said the government had zero tolerance for corruption.

"The issue of corruption in CBFC brought forth by actor @VishalKOfficial is extremely unfortunate. The government has zero tolerance for corruption and strictest action will be taken against anyone found involved.

A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal triggered moderate showers in different parts of south Bengal, including Calcutta and its neighbourhood, on Saturday, an IMD official said.

The official added that rain and thundershowers are likely to continue over the next 24 hours and overcast conditions will prevail in the city as the system will intensify. In the last 24 hours, the city recorded around 5.4mm rainfall. The official added spells of rain and thundershowers have been occurring in Calcutta, Howrah, South and North 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Purba Medinipur, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Paschim Medinipur since Friday midnight.

Severe rainfall battered New York City on Friday, causing widespread disruptions as subways and airports experienced significant issues while roads turned to waterways.

The unprecedented downpour, saw parts of Brooklyn experience almost 7 inches (18 centimeters) of rain and nearly 8 inches at JFK Airport — breaking records set in 1960 by Hurricane Donna. Images from New York City on social media showed cars partially underwater and congested traffic, with several key roads inundated by floods.

A feature film based on the tragic story behind OceanGate's Titan submersible is being developed by "Blackening" producer E Brian Dobbins and MindRiot Entertainment.

According to entertainment news outlet Deadline, Dobbins will serve as a co-producer on the fiction project, which will be penned by MindRiot's Justin MacGregor and Jonathan Keasey. The Titan submersible went missing during a deep sea underwater excursion near the wreckage of the Titanic in the Atlantic Ocean in June 2023. The submersible lost contact with its mother ship 1 hour and 45 minutes into the dive, and four days later, a remotely operated underwater vehicle discovered debris near the Titanic wreck, and the Titan submersible was believed to have imploded.
