Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram will go to polls on different days from November 7-30 and votes will be counted for the five states on December 3, the Election Commission said, setting the stage for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Counting of votes for all five states will take place on December 3, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar said.

Israel’s defence minister, Yoav Gallant, declared that Israel is imposing a 'complete siege' on Gaza, adding that there is 'no electricity, no food, no water, and no fuel'. Ten Nepali students have been killed and four others injured in Israel after the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a wave of rocket attacks in the country's southern region, Nepal's foreign ministry said. Hamas' assault on Israel drove oil prices higher as markets priced in fears of a wider conflict in the Middle East, a day after Israel pounded the Palestinian enclave of Gaza in retaliation for one of the bloodiest attacks in its history.

The death toll in Sikkim's flash flood has risen to 34, officials in the state said, while the administration in adjoining northern West Bengal said that 40 bodies have been fished out from the downstream of Teesta River. Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and all MLAs of the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) will contribute their one month's salary to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF) for rescue, relief and reconstruction work in the Himalayan state which was ravaged by flash floods.

The Congress Working Committee's (CWC) crucial meeting began and will see the party top brass hold discussions on its strategy for the upcoming assembly elections and a nationwide caste census. Ahead of assembly and Lok Sabha polls, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge exhorted party workers to work in coordination, discipline and unity to ensure the party's victory in the elections. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the party's working committee has taken a 'historic decision' unanimously to support the idea of a nationwide caste census, asserting that it is a 'powerful step' for the emancipation of the poor.

Delhi High Court reserved order on pleas by NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha and human resources department head Amit Chakravarty challenging their arrest and police custody in a case lodged under anti-terror law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Purkayastha, arrested for allegedly receiving money to spread pro-China propaganda, told the Delhi High Court the allegations against him were 'false' and 'bogus', and 'not a penny has come from China'.

A day after questioning West Bengal minister Firhad Hakim and TMC MLA Madan Mitra following search operations at their respective residences, the CBI raided the house of a BJP MLA and a few other places in connection with its probe into alleged irregularities in recruitments made by civic bodies. CBI officers raided the house of BJP MLA from Ranaghat Uttar Paschim in Nadia district Parthasarathi Chatterjee, an official said.
