UN aid deliveries to Gaza were suspended again due to shortages of fuel and a communications shutdown, deepening the misery of thousands of hungry and homeless Palestinians as Israeli troops battled Hamas militants in the enclave. Palestinian news agency WAFA said a number of Palestinians were killed and others injured in an Israeli strike that hit a group of displaced people near the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt - the transit point for aid.

An aide of a Congress candidate was killed after two groups fought in the Rajnagar constituency of Madhya Pradesh and a few clashes were reported in other parts of the state, where assembly elections are being held, officials said. Two persons were injured in a clash during voting in Dimani constituency where the Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar is contesting, an official said.

Working overnight with a powerful machine, rescue workers had drilled up to 22 metres through the rubble in Silkyara tunnel, inching closer to the 40 labourers trapped there for five days. 'The trapped workers have been provided food. They are fine. The auger machine is also working well. We pray to god they are evacuated as soon as possible,' Navayuga Enegineering Company Ltd PRO GL Nath said.

Delhi's air quality has deteriorated further and now stands closer to the 'severe plus' category, a stage which might trigger the implementation of the odd-even car rationing measure in the capital. The relatively better air quality last weekend is attributed to rain. Air pollution levels surged in the following days due to intense firecracker bursting on Diwali night and a resurgence in stubble burning in the neighbouring states.

Five terrorists were killed in an overnight encounter with security forces in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. Security forces had launched a cordon-and-search operation in Nehama village of Kulgam following information about the presence of terrorists in the area on November 16, the officials said.

One person was arrested and three others were detained in connection with the killing of a Trinamul Congress panchayat pradhan in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on November 16, police said. He was killed three days after the murder of another TMC panchayat member at Joynagar in neighbouring South 24 Parganas district.

A court in Varanasi will hear on November 18 an application filed by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), seeking 15 more days to submit its report of a scientific survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex. The ASI carried out the scientific survey of the Gyanvapi premises, located next to the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi, to determine whether the 17th-century mosque was constructed over a pre-existing structure of a Hindu temple.

India will be overwhelming favourites in the upcoming World Cup final against Australia, the team's former head coach Ravi Shastri said while urging the hosts to stick to their game plans. 'I think they will be relaxed. They are playing at home, and it's a very experienced side. And they don't need to do anything different,' Shastri said.
