President Droupadi Murmu conferred Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian honour, on former prime ministers P V Narasimha Rao and Chaudhary Charan Singh, agriculture scientist M S Swaminathan and two-time former Bihar chief minister Karpoori Thakur, posthumously at a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. P V Prabhakar Rao, the son of former prime minister Rao, received the award conferred on his father from the president.

Delhi minister and AAP leader Kailash Gahlot appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in connection with a money-laundering case linked to the now-scrapped excise policy for the capital, officials said. The minister was seen entering the ED office in central Delhi around 11:30 am.

Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, who died of cardiac arrest, was laid to rest at the Kali Bagh burial ground in Ghazipur. The local administration made elaborate security arrangements outside Ansari's residence and the burial ground.

The Indian Navy has freed an Iranian fishing vessel that was hijacked by pirates and rescued its crew of 23 Pakistani nationals, following 'intense coercive tactical measures' as part of an anti-piracy operation at sea that lasted for more than 12 hours, officials said. The Navy said late on March 29 evening that it was engaged in an operation to free the fishing vessel from pirates.

Delhi Police filed its first charge sheet, spread across about 8,000 pages, in the UAPA case against NewsClick and its founder Prabir Purkayastha for allegedly running Chinese propaganda, naming him and the firm owning the portal as accused. According to special public prosecutors, Akhand Pratap Singh and Suraj Rathi, the charge sheet names Purkayastha and PPK NEWSCLICK Studio Private Limited as accused.

Archana Patil, the daughter-in-law of senior Congress leader and former Union home minister Shivraj Patil joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Shivraj Patil, who hails from Latur in Marathwada region of Maharashtra, was Union home minister during the UPA-I government, but stepped down in the wake of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Prior to that, he had also served as the Lok Sabha Speaker.

Three alleged members of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) have been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on money-laundering charges, official sources said. Abdul Khader Puttur, Anshad Baddrudin and Firoz K were working as physical trainers for the PFI, the sources said, adding that they were arrested under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

At least five mine workers were killed when the roof of a house collapsed due to heavy rainfall in Pakistan's Balochistan province. The coal mine collapsed due to the torrential rain and five workers were buried under the debris and died, police said.

Noted Tamil film actor 'Daniel' Balaji, popular for his villain roles and on-screen aggression, died due to heart attack, a hospital source said. The actor, who was living in Thiruvanmiyur, complained of chest pain and was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Kottivakkam in Chennai.
