Congress announced it will hold a 'Bharat Nyay Yatra' led by Rahul Gandhi from Manipur in the east to Mumbai in western India, covering 14 states and 85 districts, beginning January 14. The yatra will be flagged off by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge from Imphal.

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) constituted a three-member ad hoc committee to run the day-to-day affairs of the WFI after the sports ministry suspended the wrestling national body for not following the provisions of its own constitution while taking decisions. The Sports Ministry on December 24 suspended the WFI, three days after it elected new office bearers with Brij Bhushan Singh loyalist Sanjay Singh as president, and also asked IOA to constitute an ad-hoc panel to manage the affairs of the sports body.

A faction of Muslim League Jammu Kashmir, led by separatist leader Masarat Alam Bhat, was declared a banned organisation by the government under the stringent anti-terror law. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while announcing the ban under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, emphasised that the Modi government's message is clear that those who act against the unity, sovereignty, and integrity of the nation will face the full wrath of the law and will not be spared.

Delhi Police has intensified its probe into a low-intensity blast that occurred near the Israel Embassy in New Delhi and sources said two youths were caught on camera walking on the road close to the spot shortly before the explosion. A team of NSG's dog squad also inspected the spot with two canines, police sources said.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met Olympic bronze medallist Bajrang Punia and other wrestlers at Jhajjar in Haryana amid a row over the election of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh loyalist Sanjay Singh as Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president. Gandhi, a former Congress president, met and interacted with the wrestlers at the Virendra Akhada at Jhajjar's Chhara village where Bajrang began his journey in the sport.

University Grants Commission (UGC) warned universities against offering MPhil courses, saying it is not a recognised degree and cautioned students against taking admission in such programmes. The commission has asked the universities to take immediate steps to stop admissions to any such MPhil programme for the 2023-24 academic year.

Ammonia gas leaked from a subsea pipeline linked to a fertiliser manufacturing unit situated on the shoreline in north Chennai, affecting people by causing shortness of breath, nausea and faintness and approximately 25 of them have been hospitalised, official sources said. A number of persons fainted after experiencing 'burning sensation' in their throat and chest.

Lee Sun-kyun, a South Korean actor of the Oscar-winning film "Parasite", was found dead, Yonhap news agency reported, citing police. Lee was found unconscious next to briquettes inside a car at a park in Seoul in the morning, after his wife reported to police that Lee had left home and she had found what appeared to be a suicide note, Yonhap said.
