Achieving a major milestone, ISRO announced the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft's Lander Module has successfully separated from the Propulsion module that was propelling it all these days in space. The lander is expected to undergo a "deboost" (the process of slowing down) to place it in an orbit, where the Perilune (the orbit's closest point to the Moon) is 30 kilometres and Apolune (farthest point from the Moon) is 100 km, from where the soft landing on the south polar region of the Moon will be attempted.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has reprimanded Jadavpur University for submitting a "generic" report on the alleged ragging and sexual harassment of a student leading to his death, according to sources. The UGC has further sought a compliance report on 12 queries raised by it and also documentary evidence within a day. The university made identity cards mandatory for visitors to enter the campus at night and decided to install CCTVs at strategic points, including at the gates. The West Bengal government has formed a four-member committee to probe into the administrative lapses connected with the death.

President Droupadi Murmu launched 'Vindhyagiri', an advanced stealth frigate, at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd's (GRSE) facility on the banks of Hooghly river here. West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were also present on the occasion.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi arrived at Leh airport earlier today for his visit to Ladakh. According to sources he will be in the region till August 25 and attend several programmes including one celebrating Rajiv Gandhi's birth anniversary.

 With the recovery of one more body from the debris of a collapsed Shiv temple in  Summer Hill area in Shimla, the death toll in the rain fury in Himachal Pradesh has climbed to 72. Eight persons are still feared buried in the debris.

Heavy rains triggered massive landslides in Manipur's Noney district, blocking the Imphal-Silchar highway due to which at least 500 goods vehicles are stranded. The landslides happened on the National Highway 37 between Irang and Awangkhul part 2, Khongsang and Awangkhul, and Rangkhui village.

4 BJP MLAs were marshalled out of the Delhi Assembly during its proceedings. Abhay Verma, Jitender Mahajan, Ajay Mahawar and OP Sharma were marshalled out of the House for protesting against a discussion over the Manipur issue.

RPF constable Chetansinh Chaudhary, who shot dead his senior and three passengers on board a moving train last month, has been dismissed from service. He was also involved in at least three discipline-related incidents, including the harassment of a Muslim man in 2017.

Cow vigilante Bittu Bajrangi, arrested in connection with communal clashes in Nuh, was sent to 14-day judicial custody. Bajrangi was produced in a Nuh court from where he was sent to judicial custody in Neemka jail of Faridabad district.

Paramilitary troops have cordoned off a Christian settlement in eastern Pakistan where a Muslim mob vandalised and torched several churches and scores of houses after accusing two of its residents of desecrating the Koran, police and witnesses said. Over 100 people suspected of being involved in the rioting have been arrested and an inquiry has also been ordered into the incident.
