The newly enacted laws -- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Act -- to completely overhaul the criminal justice system in the country will come into effect from July 1. The three laws got the Parliament's approval on December 21, 2023 and President Droupadi Murmu gave her assent on December 25.

AAP will contest four Lok Sabha seats in Delhi and the Congress three, the parties said on Saturday as they announced their seat-sharing arrangements for the national capital, Gujarat, Goa and Haryana. The Congress and the AAP are constituents of the INDIA bloc, formed by Opposition parties to take on the BJP in the upcoming general elections.

Bengal ministers Sujit Bose and Partha Bhowmick on Saturday visited trouble-torn Sandeshkhali to take stock of the situation, while a CPI(M) delegation led by Minakshi Mukhopadhay was prevented by the police from venturing into interior areas of the region in North 24 Parganas district. They were stopped at Majher Para area, where the CPI(M) activists staged a sit-in and raised slogans against the police.

The Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra resumed from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh with Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joining her brother in the yatra's final leg in the state. People raised slogans such as 'Rahul Gandhi zindabaad', 'Priyanka Gandhi zindabaad' and 'Congress party zindabaad' as the yatra passed through different areas of Moradabad.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked his Cabinet ministers to prepare an 'actionable, measurable and clearly defined' plan and present it in the meeting of the Council of Ministers on March 3, government sources said. He has asked them to undertake extensive consultation, including with experienced people like senior bureaucrats, those working on the ground and domain experts, before mapping out their action plan, the sources said.

Under fire over AI tool Gemini's objectionable response and bias to a question on PM Narendra Modi, Google said it has worked quickly to address the issue and conceded that the chatbot 'may not always be reliable' in responding to certain prompts related to current events and political topics. Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for IT and Electronics, had taken cognizance of the issue raised by verified accounts of a journalist alleging bias in Google Gemini in response to a question on Modi while it gave no clear answer when a similar question was asked for Trump and Zelenskyy.

India's consulate in Seattle has raised with authorities the case of Indian student Jaahnavi Kandula after the prosecution attorney said an over speeding Seattle police officer who struck and killed her while responding to an overdose call will not face any criminal charges due to lack of 'sufficient' evidence. In bodycam footage released by the Seattle Police Department, Officer Daniel Auderer laughed about the deadly crash and dismissed any implication Dave might be at fault or that a criminal investigation was necessary.

Chhattisgarh actor-director-producer Manoj Rajput was held for allegedly raping a close relative for the past 13 years after promising to marry her, a police official said. Rajput was charged under Indian Penal Code sections for rape, unnatural sex, criminal intimidation and other offences as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act since the victim was a minor when the alleged exploitation began, tation House Officer (SHO) Rajkumar Borjha said.
